Downtown Annapolis Courthouse Wedding | Annapolis, Maryland
After years of long distance and being separated by an entire ocean, Sophie and Abdallah tied the knot in a simple and intimate courthouse ceremony surrounded by close family in downtown Annapolis!
Sophie and Abdallah first met in Paris at a nightclub. Sophie, who was studying abroad in France at the time, was at the club with friends when she looked up at the stage and locked eyes with Abdallah. He asked her to dance and realized that they had an instant connection. They soon went on their first date to a Christmas Market in les Jardins des Tuileries in Paris where they ate beignets, rode the bumper cars, and spent hours talking and getting to know each other.
After her program ended, Sophie returned to the US and Abdallah remained abroad. They continued their relationship long distance and tried to see each other in person every chance they could.
After 5 months apart, Sophie flew to Morocco to go visit Abdallah. When she arrived at the airport at 1 AM, Abdallah was there waiting for her with a huge bouquet of flowers. On the way to Abdallah’s house, he told Sophie that they had flat tire and had to pull over. They pulled up outside Hassan Tour in Rabat where his friend started taking pictures. At first Sophie was confused as to what was happening until she realized that Abdallah was already down on one knee! It was 3 AM, which Sophie said was, “very Moroccan of him.” Sophie’s friends came out from behind a wall which was a huge surprise as some of them had flown in from France! Abdallah wanted to make sure everything about the proposal was perfect and had even paid the security guards to allow them to film and take pictures.
The next day Sophie received another surprise from Abdallah, when her mom arrived in Morocco! The couple had their Nikah (an Islamic marriage ceremony, where the couple legitimize their marriage in the eyes of God by signing a marriage contract in the presence of witnesses) at his house surrounded by family and friends.
After completing all the required paperwork and waiting for what felt like an eternity, Abdallah finally received notice of his approved Visa and made the journey to join Sophie in the US. They decided upon a small and intimate wedding with immediate family at the Anne Arundel County Courthouse to start their new life together in the US as husband and wife. They are currently planning for a big wedding with all family and friends in June 2024.
